Well I had a lot of inspiration today. After getting a bisque load on I was able to get back to the wheel after a week of glazing. Remembering a friend's tip that vessels start from the inside out, I tried a new method. I've never understood ribs much -- they just didn't resonate with me.I always just use my hands. Still, sometimes, I feel I need something to get the shape the way I want it besides just my fingers. I have a set of dark wooden spoons I bought in Korea. I got them for my pottery studio, not quite sure what I would do with them. But they felt right. In making small teabowls today, I picked up the smallest spoon -- it was the perfect size and shaped exactly how I wanted. I used it to shape the interior of the teabowl and used a sponge on the outside. I repeated it, using a rib on the outside to skim off the excess slip. PERFECT! Turns out I'm a spoon gal -- not a rib gal!
