Creativity curls through your heart and fingers like roses growing. Everything takes time to come to proper maturation -- including ideas.  With clay, it is the process of evolution and erosion, eking out a new piece.  You never know if the soft clay will cooperate. You never know if the water leaving it will crack or cradle the piece. You never know if the heat will firm or fracture the piece.  You never know if the glaze will love or rape the piece. Its all up to the Kiln gods of change and chance, and the Laws of Physics. Fortunately God resides over both. Unfortunately, God has a sense of humor and puts us and our pieces through trials of molding, shaping, and fires of hell!

Well I had a lot of inspiration today. After getting a bisque load on I was able to get back to the wheel after a week of glazing. Remembering a friend's tip that vessels start from the inside out, I tried a new method. I've never understood ribs much -- they just didn't resonate with me.I always just use my hands. Still, sometimes, I feel I need something to get the shape the way I want it besides just my fingers. I have a set of dark wooden spoons I bought in Korea. I got them for my pottery studio, not quite sure what I would do with them. But they felt right. In making small teabowls today, I picked up the smallest spoon -- it was the perfect size and shaped exactly how I wanted. I used it to shape the interior of the teabowl and used a sponge on the outside. I repeated it, using a rib on the outside to skim off the excess slip. PERFECT! Turns out I'm a spoon gal -- not a rib gal!

I wonder how gays will come to realize that those relationships are sadly limited. Crossing the gender barrier is a tough one. Becoming parents and raising kids is tougher still. Kids need both genders as role models growing up. A same-sex couple is only half the equation that kids need for normal development. Love is not enough. Kids need to see the dynamics of a man and woman interacting with love and integrity to have an ideal upbringing. Its tough to sustain a dual sex relationship. So many dynamics come into play. Same sex relationships don't offer all those dimensions for personal growth of the couple. Yet the love between the two exists, which is a good and wonderful thing. THey just need to realize they are meant to be best friends forever, with a spouse of the opposite gender. They are not meant to be lovers in the sexual sense. Things can get confusing in this messed up world. Same sex couples have found a safe haven in each other -- but its to introverted and sheltered. We all came into this world via a man and a woman. We can only become complete by finding our soulmate of the opposite sex and growing to become one with them, surmounting the gender barrier.
