and so I wrote him this

you are not the only one whose mind runs through curious corridors of why and wherefore unabated. We live in a world gone mad -- so mad that it takes itself for sane.

Nature seems to be the only form of true sanity -- and even then, its innocent brutality is frightening.

Mountains are just as merciless as great whites -- savage beauty that will consume you without even recognizing your existence.

Thus we walk with care, and look and wonder.

For truly, despite all these strange disasters in it, it is a wonderful world.
